FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN YOU FIND GOLD WITH THAT? (JOKE)
Although we have metal detectors which could find gold we concentrate more on dealing with underground services. Although, if somebody did lose something valuable like a gold ring we can locate the object if requested.

WHAT CAN YOU FIND?
GeoScan has the technology and expertise to locate all underground services. GeoScan can also investigate other underground features such as for example forensic investigations, geophysical feature investigation, archealogical investigation, road and footpath assessing investigation and structural investigation such as Concrete Scanning

HOW DEEP CAN YOUR EQUIPMENT SCAN?
GeoScan's equipment obtains electronic depth readings. For example using pipe and cable location equipment we can obtain depths anywhere from 2.0m to 4.0m range.

Using ground penetrating radar depths are obtained through interpreting the utility or non man made features on a display visual screen. Depending on the quality of the ground soil (heavy soils, clay) and what you are looking for can restrict ground penetration to a certain amount (lighter sandy soils can give good ground penetration). Depths can vary in the 2.0m – 4.0m range.

Using Ground Penetrating Radar to scan structural areas such as concrete, the depth range offered from our scanning equipment inside the concrete structure can vary from 300mm to 500mm.

IS YOUR EQUIPMENT PRONE TO INTERFERENCE AND CAN IT INTERFERE WITH OTHER SERVICES?
GeoScan's equipment is not prone to interference and is safe to use. The equipment is operated by electromagnetic signals and is not radio active.

GeoScan's equipment does not effect other services such as utilities we are locating or reception from TV antennas. Our equipment omits low milli amp signals along our intended path of location.

HOW ACCURATE CAN YOU PIN POINT SERVICES?
GeoScan's equipment can accurately pin point services and provide an electronic depth of the intended target. Though we work with electronic magnetic signals the location process is not an exact science and is prone to bleed over signals to other services nearby or ghost signals (false readings).

Ground Penetrating Radar gives onsite, real time imaging of the intended object and provides depths when above the object via an indicated depth graph on the imaging monitor screen. Ground Penetrating Radar Equipment also has the capability to calculate the length, width and height of the object.

As industry experts in our field we are able to quickly decipher these problems.

CAN YOU LOCATE SERVICES THAT ARE NOT UNDERGROUND?
GeoScan can for example locate services in walls, cavities and in roof areas. We can also singularly identify services in these areas by using an electronic stethescope attached to a cable locator. For example, if you are looking for a particular electrical cable in a wall, floor, or roof cavity and you have a bunch of cables together then with the stethescope we can identify the target conduit.

HOW FAR DO YOU TRAVEL?
Although GeoScan is a Geelong based company that operates throughout Victoria.
